After being hidden from the limelight for so many years, Motorola came back with a bang with Moto E, Moto G and Moto X. It was Moto G which created a lot of buzz and it turned out to be the most popular phone of the year. The phone is still selling like hot cakes in the market and the success is the reason that Motorola came up with the 2nd Generation of Moto G. Both the 1st Gen. and 2nd Gen. are getting a good response from the users and now Motorola has come up with the Third Gen. of the device.
Yes, you read that right. After so many leaks and rumours, Moto G 3rd Gen is finally here. Will it be able to survive the competition from brands like Asus, Xiaomi, and Lenovo and will it be able to carry on the legacy of Moto G, let’s find out in our detailed review.
Build Quality and Design
The phone is almost identical to Moto G 2nd Gen. Although, the removable back cover now features a ribbed texture that makes phone solid and more durable. The optional multi coloured back panels adds to the customisation feature of the phone.
There is a metallic strip at the back of the device which boasts of an improved and better 13 MP camera with a new Dual-LED flash. Everything else like placement of the buttons and ports are exactly same like the older generations of the phone. The one worth mentioning thing about Moto G 3rd Generation is that it is water resistance. It comes with IPX7 rating which means it is now the cheapest phone which is water-resistant.
The one disappointing thing about the phone is its display. The company has decided to keep the display intact as it was in the Moto G 2nd Generation. We all were expecting that the device will have a full HD display but, it still is a 5” HD display only. Although, the display is not bad and does a decent job. Viewing angles and colour reproduction is apt.
It is protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The display could have been better but, still you can’t complain at this price range.
Hardware and Performance
Major up gradations has been done in case of hardware. The processor has been upgraded to 64 bit 1.4 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 Quad Core Processor. There is an Adreno 306 graphics and the Ram has also been upgraded to 2GB from 1GB.
The phone runs completely smooth with no lag during gaming and multitasking. The phone delivers excellent performance without any heating issues. The phone now offers 16GB of internal storage out of which 11.8GB is available to the user. There is a micro SD card slot, so you can expand the storage.
NFC is still missing from the phone but, the phone supports 4G. With most major brands missing the FM in their phone, Motorola has made sure that it offers FM radio in their phone. The sound quality of the phone is clear and loud. The phone is supported by a 2570 mAh battery and can easily last for a day with normal usage. Overall, the performance is better and the battery backup has also improved.
The phone runs on latest Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box. The OS is almost stock Android with on-screen navigation controls for better functionality. The company has included some of its own system apps which are useful, not like bloatware offered by other brands
The software offers many excellent features like Assist changes which decided how the phone alerts during a meeting or sleep. The Motorola migrate feature allows the user to transfer content and settings from your old Android phone to new one. There are gesture modes too where you just need to twist the phone to capture an image. In simple words, the software is as smooth as it can be.
The camera has improved a lot. Moto G Third Gen. features a 13 MP rear camera with f2.0 aperture, much better auto-focus and a brand new dual LED flash light. The 5MP front camera also captures excellent selfies. The camera sensors are also improved a lot.
The camera is rich in features and offers HDR mode, slow motion mode, Panorama mode and widescreen mode. You can click pictures by taping anywhere on the screen. The picture quality has also improved and the new camera delivers better colour details, contrast and sharpness. The camera is capable of recording full HD video and HD slow motion videos without any lag.

The 8GB model is priced at $179.99 and the 16GB variant is priced at $219.99. In India, the 8GB model will cost you INR 11,999 and you will have to pay INR 12,999 for 16GB model. The phone will exclusively be available on Flipkart from 29th July 2015. It will go on sale from midnight of 28th July.
